So after leaving for the Las Vegas airport from Mesquite 3+ hours early and getting stuck on the freeway due to a rollover for over 2 hours we made it to the airport with 40 minutes to spare! We rushed through the lines (probably on of the fastest jaunts through security we've ever taken) and ran to the gate--of course it was all the way at the end of the terminal! We made it though to find that the plane had not even began boarding...whew! Curtis hated every minute of running through the aiport--his biggest pet peeve.
We got into New York early the next day to find out that our bags didn't make it on the plane! (I hope you are all enjoying the story of our adventure as much as we were at this point.) It was alright though because we had packed our carry-ons for overnight just incase we had such an emergency. They said our bags would be waiting when we returned Sunday to catch our flight to Berlin.
We stayed at the Wanderer's Inn on New York's upper East side. The subway was 2 blocks away so we got around pretty easily. The first stop was the Statue of Liberty Island (pictures to come) and it was a great day for it. We hung out for a little while and then proceeded to miss the last boat to Ellis Island...ooops, maybe next time.
Since we left our temple recommends in Mesquite by accident we went back to the inn to see if Jen and Spencer had faxed us copies of them and see if we could still make a session. Unfortunately it started in 10 minutes and we were about 45 minutes away. So we decided we were both starving and headed to Brooklyn for pizza at Grimaldi's, one of the "original" NY pizza places. The food was great, the dining experience was as expected--crowded, noisy and a perfect NYC scene. By the time we finished it was raining and pretty late, we wandered down to the dock to get some pictures and then proceded to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge in the rain and were soaked by the time we made it back to the subway. It was a lot of fun, despite being wet.
Sunday we went to church in Manhattan which is about 2 blocks from Central Park so we hung out there for a few hours afterwards and then headed to Canal Street and Little Italy and China town and also found our street! THOMPSON street. Of course that meritted a photo opportunity! What a crowd we found there. Andi kept getting hit up to buy "designer sunglasses" and handbags and Curtis go hit up for "Rolex's". You can't go wrong with a rip-off. After that we met Curtis' friend Carly on 14th street for lunch at the Spice House in the meat-packing district. One word...POSH! Yes, that's the only thing to describe it. The food was amazing! Then it was off to JFK to pick up bags and catch our flight.....to be continued.
