ich bin ein BERLINER

Our first class flight to Berlin was great! After we sat on the runway for a couple of hours at a very busy JFK we were off. We ate dinner and then slept most of the way. Our flight got in about 11am and we had no trouble getting our bags or finding our hostel.

We lucked out as far as accomodations go as Curtis had booked a double private room which just so happened to be a seperate apartment from the hostel and the other room was not booked for the days we are here, so we have the place all to ourselves. It reminds us a lot of some of our missionary dwellings in a residential part of the city. It makes us feel more like we are part of the town rathan than "just tourists."

The first place we headed out to go see was "Checkpoint Charlie", the historical center of the Berlin Wall. There weren't too many tourists and we spent some time on the surrounding blocks marveling at what history happened where we were standing. We saw parts of the wall and checked our a few souvenir spots before we needed to head out to the Tamkus Family's place.

The Tamkus's are a family that Andi taught on her mission and they had invited us to dinner with the Elder's as well. The took us to an American-style restaurant for all-you-can-eat spare ribs. What a meal. Curtis remembered just how much he used to eat on his mission when one Elder declared he was on his 8th rack of ribs! Dinner was fun and the Tamkus family was wonderful. We parted at the S-bahn station. Andi and I decided we would have to send them more of their favorite American candy--starbursts and skittles--since they wouldn't let us pay for dinner.

On the way home we stopped at the Zoologischer-Garden stop to grab a pastry and walk around for a minute before heading back. We planned to visit Bradenburg Gate, the Berlin Dome and Alexanderplatz the next day (today) and headed home to catch some Zzz's It's been quite the trip so far and has been fun to visit some of our friends.

We hope everything is going well back at home. Feel free to post coments to the blog. We'd enjoy hearing from you all!

Love, C&A

Hi guys! Looks like you are having a wonderful time! Enjoy every second together! We celebrated Mother's Day last night so we were able to hear all about Kelli and Darren's adventures in Hawaii, they had a super time too. I said to your Dad, "You sure can tell the difference in our ages by how we spend our time in Hawaii!" We need the rest, they like the adventure. Keep us up on all of your travels! Love you both!
